On September 29, 2021, ANSA implemented the Electronic Flight Strips (EFS) by the company Thales from France. EFS is designed to mimic and function as a paper strip.  EFS will allow for real-time data updates, streamlining the entire flight-plan process, and enable data sharing with stakeholders (Curacao Area Control Center and Apron Management Unit). It has a visualization tool and can be linked to the ATM system safety features. Flight information can be updated and shared (coordinated) instantly. The EFS system has been specially developed to work in the procedural and surveillance environment at Beatrix Tower. The EFS system consists of two (2) WACOM tablets which have been installed at the assistant and the Tower position.

EFS provides digitally the data required for the billing process and also for the development and compliance monitoring of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).  

From September 8 to September 23, 2021, all Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) attended an extensive 3-day training given by Thales. The EFS is user-friendly, and the ATCOs are very pleased with this system.

ANSA is the first Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) in the world to have an EFS system that works in the procedural as well as the surveillance environment. ANSA is also one of the first in the region and Kingdom of the Netherlands to have EFS implemented. ANSA has invested approximately 1.1 million Aruban guilders in this project and is very satisfied with the results.

Once again ANSA has shown that Aruba is a pioneer with regards to the application of modern technology in air traffic services.
